The execution of the Imperial family

Emperor Nicholas II, his wife Empress Alexandra and their five children were shot and bayoneted to death by Communist revolutionaries under Yakov Yurovsky in Yekaterinburg on the night of 16–17 July 1918.
On the night of the Imperial assassination, the ladies of the family were dressed in bulletproof, diamond-studded undergarments, making it much harder to kill them. http://www.alexanderpalace.org/palace/yurovmurder.html
“They shot the daughters but did not kill them. Then Yermakov resorted to a bayonet, but that did not work either. Finally they killed them by shooting them in the head. Only in the forest did I finally discover the reason why it had been so hard to kill the daughters and Alexandra Feodrovna….the daughters had on bodices almost entirely of diamonds and [other] precious stones.”
Murder of the Imperial Family – The executioner Yurovsky’s account
Also killed that night were retainers who had accompanied them. The bodies were taken to the Koptyaki forest, where they were stripped and mutilated.
